Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge | Madikwe Game Reserve

4 Star Madikwe Game Reserve image

Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge lies on the Tweedepoort Ridge in the west of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve providing expansive views of the ravine below and out across Madikwe’s northern plains and inselbergs.

This family-friendly five-star Lodge offers guests a choice of eight luxurious thatch-and-stone chalets positioned for optimal privacy along the rugged slopes of the ridge.

Each beautifully-appointed chalet sleeps two people and features a mini lounge, en-suite bathroom, and double sliding doors that open onto an elevated wooden deck from where you can take in the breathtaking panoramas of this bushveld paradise.

The contemporary Afro-chic décor with its emphasis on earth colours and naturally textured fabrics and furnishings further enhances your experience of the pristine surrounds.

Buffalo Ridge’s main lodge covers two tiers and is accessible via a wooden bridge that traverses the ravine below. Here you can relax on the ample viewing deck in the shade of the towering rock figs, enjoy a sumptuous meal in the welcoming dining area or unwind with a refreshing dip in the plunge pool as you drink in the glorious vistas.

The Lodge boasts a range of outdoor activities to ensure you have ample opportunities to explore Madikwe, including twice-daily game drives in open 4X4 vehicles, bush sundowners, and visits to the reserve’s hides.

Expect to spot a rich diversity of game, from the Big Five to cheetah, wild dog, kudu, springbok, eland, red hartebeest, giraffe, and impala as well as a myriad of bird species under the guidance of the Lodge’s expert rangers.

While Buffalo Ridge is family friendly, children aged six years or younger are not permitted on game drives due to safety concerns. However, mini morning children’s game drives can be pre-arranged. Babysitters are also available on request.

Buffalo Ridge was initially opened to the public in November 2004 and has an exceptionally inspiring founding story regarding local community upliftment. Its inception is the result of a groundbreaking eco-tourism partnership between North-West Park, the Balete Ba Lekgophung community – which has a 45-year lease to run a commercial lodge – and the operator, The Nature Workshop, making it the first fully owned community-based Safari Lodge to be established in South Africa.

Its exclusive location, deluxe accommodations, and impeccable service make Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge a prime wildlife destination for family and couples’ breakaways.

Buffalo Ridge can be reached by private charter or the daily Madikwe Shuttle into Madikwe Western Airstrip which is only a 30 minutes’ drive from the Safari Lodge.

To all Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge Clients

The South Africa is currently at Lockdown Level 2. As we are still dealing with COVID-19 related lockdowns within South Africa and Internationally we have updated our booking and cancellation policies for Buffalo Ridge. We are aware of and sympathetic to the uncertainties surrounding domestic and global travel in the short and medium term due to the worldwide impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As such we have reviewed our Booking and Cancellation procedures to assist you with your bookings. These amendments will give our guests the opportunity to plan and book their Safari, safe in the knowledge that an amendment can be made to their booking without the standard cancellation penalties. This process is still quite fluid so we will take our cue from the Government and will monitor and update our clients accordingly

We recommend that all international guests take out comprehensive personal travel insurance and that they check the schedule of included benefits thoroughly. Most insurance companies have an option to purchase an insurance plan with a 'Cancel for Any Reason' clause, which should cover any trip cancellations for pandemics.
