Tau Game Lodge

Tau Game Lodge lies in the extreme north-western corner of malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve overlooking an immense waterhole, which attracts a diversity of bird- and wildlife.

This privately-owned luxury Lodge is designed to complement the spectacular rugged beauty of the Great Marico bushveld, making it the perfect destination for an authentic African safari getaway as well as a superb venue for conventions and weddings.

Tau Game Lodge can accommodate up to 60 guests in 30 upmarket thatched chalets: 20 Standard and six Deluxe chalets, one Family Unit, and one Family Suite.

The chalets are positioned in a U-shape on either side of the main lodge, spread out to ensure your privacy and offer panoramic views of the resident game meandering down to the waterhole from your wooden deck.

Each chalet is equipped with air-conditioning and ceiling fans, anen-suite bathroom, open-air shower, hairdryer, mosquito nets, tea and coffee making facilities, bar fridge, and mini-safe.

The Standard chalets, one of which has been modified to be wheelchair friendly, can sleep two adults sharing or a single adult while the Deluxe chalets are more spacious than the Standard chalets and can sleep two adults and two young children under the age of 12. As the Deluxe chalet is open-plan, guests should be aware they’ll be sharing one large room.

The Family Unit consists of two Standard chalets connected byaninterleading sitting area. One bedroom is fitted with a double bedand the other with twin beds, making this Unit suitable for a family oftwo adults and two children, alternatively a group of four adultstraveling together.

The Family Suite is made up of two adjacent Deluxe chalets linked by acommunal lounge. This Suite features one bedroom furnished with adouble bed and a second bedroom with twin beds, and the option to addextra sleeper couches, making it ideal for larger families with up tofour children aged 12 years or younger.

The split-level main lodge is decorated in the same appealingAfro-centric style found in the chalets and boasts a cosy sitting area,dining room, and bar all of which are partly covered, affording guestsmesmerising vistas of the waterhole and out across the jumbled hillocksof Tshwene-Tshwene to the Dwarsberg range in the distance.

The views are just as impressive from alongside the mainlodge’s crystal-clear plunge pool or the newly built infinitypool located close to the dedicated game viewing lounge.

Delicious buffet breakfasts and lunches are typically served in themain dining room or on the veranda adjacent to the plunge pool, whiledinners are served in the Lapa or al fresco in one of the intimateBoma's.

What usually draws guests to “The Place of theLion” [*] and the world-renowned Madikwe Game Reserve is itsbreathtaking biodiversity. While children aged six years or younger are not permitted on thestandard game drives, unless their parents have booked a privatevehicle, family-friendly Tau Game Lodge does offer an extensiveprogramme of supervised activities for junior guests.

Children aged 3 to 5 years automatically become members of the Tau CubzClub. The Cubz Club programme includes a mini morning game drive,treasure hunts, and arts and crafts. And as a member of the Club, eachyoungster gets a backpack complete with a wildlife activity booklet,animal sticker checklist, deputy ranger sticker badge, and certificateas well as a special Tau Game Lodge T-shirt. Youngsters aged six andolder are also welcome to participate in the Cubz club activities.Plus, the Lodge provides a babysitting service available at an extracharge.

Should you be planning a conference, Tau’s state-of- the-artconvention centre is sure to meet your exacting standards. The centreis equipped with world-class facilities and can seat up to 150delegates. The main hall can be split into three breakaway rooms, eachof which can operate independently or integrally via a touch-screencontrol setup.

The setup includes specialist plug-in- and-play options to meet yourevery presentation need and has been configured to optimisefunctionality, performance and aesthetic qualities. The centre boasts akitchen, bar, Lapa, and regular as well as wheelchair- friendly toiletsmaking it ideal for team building events, corporate retreats, andseminars.

The Lodge can host wedding parties of up to 60 guests in the mainbuilding while the resident game bear witness from the far side of thewaterhole. For the ultimate in unforgettable ceremonies, bridal couplescan choose to take their vows at a gloriously secluded site within theReserve which includes a gazebo, red carpet, and chairs with whitechair covers.

Madikwe Game Reserve is run as a joint venture between the state, theprivate sector, and local communities. In line with this philosophy,Tau's owner Robert Gerard established the Tau Foundation toencourage foreign business guests to donate to this non-profitorganisation. The Tau Foundation runs some impressive projects in thelocal Supingstad community, including a leather factory, school soupkitchens, and traditional historical sites.

And because the Lodge recognises the importance of planting moreindigenous trees to help conserve our environment, the owner alsofounded the Tau Tree Fund. The Fund enables guests to give back byplanting a protected tree species of their choosing.
