This incredible experience, offered by only a select few locations in Africa, gives guests the thrilling experience of falling asleep surrounded only by flickering lanterns and listening to a lullaby of roaring lions, crying jackals and laughing hyenas.

A rustic double storey structure tucked away in a secluded part of Makanyane’s private ground, the hide overlooks a waterhole and has spectacular views across the Madikwe Game Reserve. The enclosed first level of the hide has a covered lounge area and a balcony. The upper level is open to the sky and it is here that soft, warm beds are made up under mosquito nets for a night spent beneath a canopy of a million stars. Guests have the choice of enjoying meals out at the hide, or being taken out to the hide after dinner at the lodge. Drinks, snacks, torches and spotlights to watch the game are all supplied. A two-way radio to ensure constant contact with lodge staff if needed is also supplied. The hide’s fully enclosed and secure ground level has ablutions facilities.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience carries no additional charge, pre-booking is advised and it is weather-dependent.
